Jay Clark - Army (Junior, Goaltender, Baudette, Minn.) -
Clark allowed just three goals to a team that scored 11 the
previous weekend as Army swept Canisius. Clark made 29 saves in a
4-1 win on Friday and then turned away 31 shots on Saturday during
the 7-2 victory. Clark made double digit saves in four of six
periods and helped hold Canisius to just one power play goal
(during a 5-on-3) in 12 chances.
Cody Omilusik - Army (Junior, Forward, Traverse City, Mich.) -
Omilusik scored two goals and dished out two assists to help Army
sweep Canisius. Omilusik scored once during Friday’s 4-1
victory and then contributed a goal and two assists during
Saturday’s 7-2 victory. Omilusik, who leads the team in
scoring with 11 goals and nine assists, has eight points in his
last four games and had at least a point in all but three games
this season.
Dustin Cloutier - Bentley (Junior, Forward, Berkley, Mich.) -
Cloutier scored twice in Bentley’s 3-2 win at Brown last
Tuesday. He scored 33 seconds into the game, then scored the
game-tying goal on the power play in the third period. He also
scored the winning goal in the shootout against Lake Superior
State.
Jamie Nudy - Bentley (Sophomore, Forward, West Chester, Pa.) -
Nudy was Bentley’s top scorer during the week with three
points on two goals and one assist. He scored the game-winning goal
against Brown in the third period and assisted on another goal. He
also scored a short-handed goal against RPI in the first round of
the RPI Holiday Tournament.
Kyle Rank - Bentley (Sophomore, Goaltender, Islip, N.Y.) - Rank
played every minute of Bentley’s three games last week and
went 1-1-1. He made a total of 111 saves with a .925 save
percentage and a 2.92 goals against average. He made 33 saves in a
3-2 win at Brown last Tuesday. His best performance of the week
came against Lake Superior State in the consolation game of the RPI
Holiday Tournament. He made a career-high 49 saves as the teams
played to a 2-2 tie. He also stopped two shots in a shootout to
give the Falcons a 2-0 shootout win and third place in the
tournament.
Thomas Tysowsky - Holy Cross (Freshman, Goaltender, Amherst, N.Y.)
- Tysowsky went 1-0-0 on the week as he earned his first collegiate
shutout as he stopped all 19 shots as the Crusaders defeated UConn,
5-0, on Nov. 24. For the season, his 2.38 goals against average is
ranked second around the conference.
Grant Blakey - Mercyhurst (Freshman, Forward, Canton, Mich.) -
Blakey continued his impressive rookie campaign with two points in
a sweep of American International this past weekend in West
Springfield, Mass. The Canton, Mich., native scored a goal and
added an assist to improve his first-year point total to 10 –
the best among Mercyhurst rookies and best among first-year players
in conference play. He scored his third goal of the season in the
team’s 8-2 win on Friday and added an assist on the
game-winner in Saturday’s 2-0 victory.
Patrick Goebel - Mercyhurst (Sophomore, Defenseman, Parma, Ohio) -
Goebel helped the Lakers extend their winning streak to four games
with a two-goal, one-assist performance against American
International this past weekend in West Springfield, Mass. The
second-year defenseman scored a goal in each game, marking goals in
back-to-back games for the first time in his career. His tally in
Saturday’s 2-0 win also proved to be the game-winner, tying
him for the team-lead in that category with two this season.

Air Force: Air Force is in second place in the AHA with a 6-1-3
record...AFA is 6-5-3 overall, the first time the Falcons have been
above .500 all season after the 0-4 start...AFA takes a seven-game
unbeaten streak (4-0-3) into the Thanksgiving break...AFA’s
unbeaten streak is the fourth longest in the nation...AFA is off
until Dec. 4-5 against AIC at home...AFA plays the next four games
at home before the holiday break...Derrick Burnett had one goal and
one assist in each game. He leads the team with 11 assists and is
second with 13 points...Burnett is 29th in the nation in
assists...Jacques Lamoureux scored a power-play goal in each game
and leads the team with seven goals and 15 points...Lamoureux is
tied for second in the nation with five power-play goals...Blake
Page scored his first goal of the season with a breakaway on
Saturday in the second period. It was the eventual game-winner, the
third of his career...AFA is now 3-3-2 on the road this season
after an 0-3 start...AFA’s penalty kill is No. 1 in the
nation at 92.4 percent, killing 61 of 66 opponent power plays...The
AFA power play is 10th in the nation at 23.2 percent.
American International: The American International College
men’s ice hockey team played host to the Mercyhurst Lakers
over the Thanksgiving weekend. Mercyhurst claimed victories in both
games, winning 8-2 in the series opener and 2-0 in Saturday’s
finale. In Friday’s 8-2 loss, senior forwards Chris Campanale
and Josh Froese tallied a goal and an assist each for the Yellow
Jackets, while freshman goaltender Ben Meisner made 23 saves in the
loss. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Lakers 35-31 on the night. In
Saturday’s 2-0 loss, junior netminder Dan Ramirez stopped 32
shots for AIC. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Lakers, for the
second straight night, 36-34. With the losses AIC falls to 2-10-1
this season and to 2-8-1 in the AHA. Next up, the Yellow Jackets
head to Colorado for two games with Air Force beginning on Friday
at 7:05 p.m.
Army: The Black Knights swept their first series of the season,
beating Canisius 4-1 and 7-2. Canisius had been one of the hottest
teams in college hockey, winning three straight games via shutout,
but Army put up four goals on Friday and then exploded for seven
goals on Saturday for its first sweep since beating Sacred Heart
twice Feb. 13-14, 2009 … This marked the first time Army
swept Canisius at West Point since the 2003-04 season … The
last time Army scored seven goals was against Bentley, a 7-2
victory on Nov. 16, 2007, six days after posting a 7-1 win against
AIC … Three players racked up four points over the weekend
against Canisius. Cody Omilusik, Eric Sefchik and Andy Starczewski
all scored twice and handed out two assists … Mike Hull had
three assists on Saturday, the first Army player to record three
assists since Eric Sefchik did it against Mercyhurst on Jan. 10 of
this year … Four different players scored goals during
Fridays 4-1 win … Army wore its gold alternate sweaters on
Friday … Mark Dube collected his first assist of the season
on Saturday … Joey Ammon scored his first goal of the season
on Friday … Army had double digit shots in all six periods
this weekend and a season-best 43 shots on goal Saturday …
Army is now averaging 2.8 goals per game … Army held
Canisius to a 1-for-12 showing on the power play … Army is
14 of 86 on the power play (16.3%) while opponents are 12 of 80
(15.0%) … Jay Clark allowed just three goals to move his
goals against average to 2.99 and his save percentage to .906
… Clark made double digit saves in four of six periods this
weekend … Army will close out the 2009 portion of their
schedule this weekend against Sacred Heart. Games on Friday and
Saturday are set for 7:05 p.m. at Tate Rink.
Bentley: The Falcons had a busy Thanksgiving week with three
non-conference games. The week started with a 3-2 win at Brown.
Junior Dustin Cloutier scored his first two goals of the season in
the win, including one just 33 seconds into the contest. Cloutier
also scored the tying goal 4:36 into the third period. Sophomore
Jamie Nudy then provided the game-winning goal at 8:21. Sophomore
goalie Kyle Rank made 33 saves to earn the win. Bentley then
competed in the 59th Annual RPI Holiday Tournament in Troy, N.Y.,
over the weekend. The Falcons were beaten by the hosts Rensselaer
in an opening round game 5-2, but rebounded to defeat Lake Superior
State in a shootout to claim third place after the game ended in a
2-2 tie. Bentley jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by
senior Anders Olson and freshman Brandon Bahnemann. Lake Superior
though tied the game with two goals in the first 2:27 of the second
period. That’s how the game ended, but the Falcons prevailed
in the shootout 2-0. Senior Marc Menzione and Cloutier scored for
Bentley, while Rank stopped both Lake Superior shots. Rank was
outstanding in regulation and overtime, stopping a career-high 49
shots, including 19 in the second period and six in overtime. For
the week, Rank played every minute of Bentley’s games and
went 1-1-1. He made a total of 111 saves with a .925 save
percentage and a 2.92 goals against average. Nudy was
Bentley’s top scorer during the week with three points on two
goals and one assist. Bentley returns to Atlantic Hockey play this
weekend for a series at Canisius in a rematch of last year’s
quarterfinals series. Bentley defeated Canisius six out of seven
times last season, including a two-game sweep at Canisius last
January.
Canisius: Canisius lost a pair of games to Army during the
weekend, falling by scores of 4-1 and 7-2. The Griffs, who had
their six-game unbeaten streak snapped, are now 6-5-1 in Atlantic
Hockey play this season. Junior Cory Conacher once again led the
Griffs offense during the weekend, scoring a goal in each game.
Conacher leads the Griffs with 19 points and 12 goals to go along
with seven assists. The junior is currently tied for first
nationally with his 12 goals and also fourth in the country with
0.86 goals per game and 16th with 1.36 points per game. Through
just 14 games this season, Conacher has already matched his career
high in goals and power-play scores (four). He has also scored in a
personal-best four-consecutive games. Canisius entered the weekend
having not allowed a goal in three-consecutive games, becoming just
the ninth team in NCAA history to accomplish the feat. The Griffs
extended their shutout streak to 213:12 before Army scored.
Canisius’ run was the seventh-longest in NCAA history. The
Griffs return to the ice on Friday, starting a two-game series at
home against Bentley. Last season, the Falcons won 6-of-7 games
against the Griffs, including a 2-1 edge in the Atlantic Hockey
Quarterfinals. Bentley is the first team to defeat Canisius six
times in a single season.
Connecticut: The Huskies went 0-2 on the week taking on Holy Cross
in their first Tuesday night game of the season and Brown in an
out-of-conference game on Saturday night. UConn scored just one
goal in the two games , which was recorded by senior captain
Michael Coppola against Brown. The Huskies met with Holy Cross on
Tuesday night and after battling for two period, Holy Cross put
four on the board in the final period of play to finish with a 5-0
score. UConn returned to the ice on Saturday night when they headed
to Brown for their 10th road game of the season as they fell to the
Bears, 8-1. Brown got five goals on the board in the first period
and added another two in the second before the Huskies were able to
score in the third period of play. Coppola notched his third goal
of the season with some help from freshman Evan Carriere (2nd
assist) and junior Jeff Sapieha (4th assist). The Huskies are back
in action on Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5 with their final
games of the fall season at Mercyhurst at 7:05 p.m.
Holy Cross: Freshman Rob Linsmayer leads the team with seven
assists and he is third with eight points. He scored his first
collegiate goal on Nov. 24 as the Crusaders defeated UConn, 5-0.
Junior Everett Sheen is first on the team with seven goals and 12
points as he scored two goals against Connecticut and posted one
goal and one assist versus No. 11 Yale. Senior Brodie Sheahan has
19 career power play goals which are eighth on the all-time Holy
Cross Division I list, while his 34 overall goals are 10th on the
school’s Division I career goals list. His 34 goals, 50
assists and 84 points are the most by any current Crusader.
Sophomore defenders Mike Daly and Matt Clune each had big weeks as
Daly recorded four assists with one versus UConn and three against
No. 11 Yale, while Clune posted three assists with one against
UConn and two versus No. 11 Yale. For the season, Daly is tied for
second on the team with a career-best six assists, while Clune has
three assists. Holy Cross is now 4-5-1 in its last 10 games against
ECACHL opponents. The Crusaders next opponent from the ECACHL is a
home game against Quinnipiac on Dec. 10. The Crusaders are 1-3-2 at
home so far this season. Last season Holy Cross went 7-8-2 at the
Hart Center. Holy Cross has a 295-186-30 (.607) all-time record at
the Hart Center since it started playing there in 1975-1976. Holy
Cross will host the 2010 NCAA Men’s Hockey Division I
Northeast Regional. The dates are Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28
at the DCU Center in Worcester. The semifinals will be at 1:30 p.m.
and 5:00 p.m. on March. 27, while the finals will be at 5:30 p.m.
on March 28. All three games will be on ESPNU. Holy Cross held the
event for the first time two years ago.
Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst improved its winning streak to four games
with a pair of wins over American International this past weekend
in West Springfield, Mass.…The Lakers defeated the Yellow
Jackets by the scores of 8-2 and 2-0, extending their winning
streak to nine games over AIC dating back to the 2006-07
season…The team’s eight goals were the most scored
this season…In Friday’s 8-2 victory, the Lakers scored
five goals in the final eight minutes of the third period, marking
the most goals scored in one frame since they scored six in the
second period against AIC on Dec. 8, 2008…Junior Brandon
Coccimiglio netted two goals and an assist on Friday to improve his
team-leading point total to 16…Sophomore Patrick Goebel
scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. His
goal on Saturday stood as the game-winner and tied him for the team
lead in that category with two…Freshman Grant Blakey added
two points to improve his first-year total to 10 – the best
among Mercyhurst rookies and the best among first-year players in
AHA action…Junior Ryan Zapolski recorded his fifth-career
shutout and second over AIC in Saturday’s win. He is now
6-8-1 on the season and 6-0 against AIC all-time…Mercyhurst
hosts Connecticut this weekend on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec.
5 at 7:05 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center…The Lakers are
25-8-2 all-time against the Huskies and have won four straight
since a 3-2 setback on Jan. 19, 2008.
Rochester Institute of Technology: RIT has now won eight straight
games, longest active winning streak in the nation, and return to
action this weekend at Holy Cross after being off for the
Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Last time out, the Tigers swept
Sacred Heart, 3-2 and 5-3 on Nov. 20-21 at Ritter Arena. The
eight-game winning streak is the second longest by RIT at the
Division I level. Last season, RIT won 11 straight games. RIT
completed its first undefeated November at the Division I level,
and sixth in program history. Sophomore forward Tyler Brenner
returned from missing seven games due to injury to score in each of
RIT’s wins on Nov. 20-21. On Nov. 21, he broke a 3-3 tie
scoring with 3:37 left in regulation. Freshman goaltender Shane
Madolora picked up his first collegiate win in his first start on
Nov. 21, stopping 24 shots. Senior defenseman Alan Mazur is tied
for fifth among all skaters nationally with five power-play goals.
Mazur is first nationally among defensemen with six goals, while
senior Dan Ringwald and freshman Chris Tanev are tied for second
among defensemen with five goals. Ringwald is also fourth
nationally with 14 points. Junior forward Andrew Favot has his
10-game point-scoring streak snapped on Nov. 21. He tallied five
goals and 13 assists during that time. He is first in scoring in
AHA play, and tied for 14th nationally in points per game.
Goaltender Jared DeMichiel has allowed just nine goals in his last
seven games, lowering his goals against average to 2.28 this
season. During that span, DeMichiel has a 1.32 goals against
average and .947 save percentage. RIT has outscored its foes 34-12
during the eight-game winning streak. RIT defensemen have 19 of the
team’s 46 goals this season. The Tigers are both 12th
nationally in goals for (3.54) and goals against (2.38). RIT is
11th in the nation on the power-play, converting 23.5 percent of
its chances. The penalty-killing unit is 13th nationally. RIT leads
the AHA in goals per game (4.00) and is second in goals allowed
(2.00) per game in conference play. The Tigers have won eight
straight games at home dating back to last season, scoring 29 goals
in six home games this season, and 44 over the eight games at home.
RIT returns to action this weekend at Holy Cross. RIT was 6-1-0
against the Crusaders last season, outscoring them 37-18 in the
seven games. The Tigers defeated Holy Cross in the AHA
quarterfinals in both 2008 and 2009. RIT is 16-6-0 all-time against
the Crusaders and 12-1-0 since moving to DI in 2005. The Tigers
have won four straight meetings at Holy Cross over the last two
seasons, outscoring the Crusaders 19-4 in those contests, including
6-0 and 3-1 last season. DeMichiel is 3-0 all-time against the
Crusaders with a 1.33 goals against average and .946 save
percentage.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers fell 8-2 to #11 Yale Tuesday night in
their only game of the week... Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) scored
Sacred Heart’s first goal, his eighth of the season, in the
first period...Johnson’s eight goals ties him for third in
Atlantic Hockey...Evan Mladenoff (Leawood, KS) posted the other SHU
goal, his third of the year...Yale jumped on the Pioneers early
notching four goals in the first ten minutes before Sacred Heart
could settle in...The Pioneers played the second half of the first
period and all of the second stanza even, 2-2, with the
Bulldogs...Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) did start in net but
entered the game in the first period to make 33 saves while
allowing six goals...The Pioneers enter this weekend’s series
with Army in 9th place in Atlantic Hockey, but every team in the
AHA has played at least two more conference games than the
Pioneers.
