Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the
NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins, and the AHL's Lake Erie
Monsters and Providence Bruins, announced today the signing of
rookie forward Jereme Tendler for the 2008-09 season.
Tendler, a 6-2 185 pound forward from Viceroy, Saskatchewan, comes
to the Chiefs after completing a stellar four-year career at
American International College. He led the Yellow Jackets in
scoring twice in his career (2005-06 and 2006-07), and served as a
co-captain during his senior season. Over his four seasons at AIC,
Tendler compiled 49 goals, 38 assists, 87 points, and 170 penalty
minutes in 126 games.
"We are pleased to add a player of Jereme's caliber to our team for
the upcoming season," said Chiefs' head coach Ian Herbers. "He is a
big, strong kid who is skilled and can skate so he will fit in well
with what we want to do this season. Jereme will also be a great
fit in the locker room. He was a co-captain last year, and we want
strong character guys on this team who will work hard to play their
best and improve their games."
Tendler exploded onto the scene as a freshman at AIC in 2004-05 by
tying for the team lead in goals (9) and adding three assists for
12 points.
That effort earned him three Rookie of the Week honors by Atlantic
Hockey, which was a first for the conference. He was also an
Honorable Mention for National Rookie of the Month in
January.
For an encore, Tendler tied the AIC record for goals in a season
(15) in his sophomore and junior seasons, respectively. Not only a
goal scorer, Tendler showed playmaking ability with 11 assists in
2005-06 and 13 in 2006-07. His 26 (05-06) and 28 (06-07) point
totals were tops on the Yellow Jackets both seasons, and after his
junior season Tendler was named a Third-Team Atlantic Hockey all
star. A second consecutive placement as a Third-Team Atlantic
Hockey all star came for Tendler after picking up 10 goals and 11
assists in 2007-08, his senior season.
Prior to skating at American International, Tendler was an
offensive threat for the Weyburn Red Wings of the Saskatchewan
Junior Hockey League.
In two seasons from 2002 to 2004, Tendler racked up 51 goals and 51
assists for 102 points in 111 games. In his last season with
Weyburn in 2003-04, Tendler tied for the team lead with 61 points
(26g, 35a), and helped propel the team to a division title. An
accomplished athlete away from the rink, Tendler won provincial
gold medals in volleyball and track and field while at Assinibolo
Composite High School.
