SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Mike Field, who was a four-year member of the American International College men’s ice hockey team, is returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach, it was announced by head coach Gary Wright. He will assume his new role with the Yellow Jackets immediately.

“Mike will be a nice addition to our staff,” said Wright. “He was extremely committed as a player, and we expect him to exhibit that same passion as a coach.”

Field appeared in 79 games at AIC, scoring five goals with five assists for 10 points and was a key member of the team’s penalty kill. He was a four-time Atlantic Hockey all-academic selection and was named the AHA Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. Field had a career year as a senior, scoring four goals with two assists in 35 games played.

Wright added “his cerebral approach to the game and versatility on the ice when he played here will help make his transition into coach easier. In addition to his recruiting responsibilities, he will work closely with our forwards and penalty killing units.”

A native of Marquette, Michigan, Field earned his bachelor’s in entrepreneurship in 2008 and will begin pursuing his master’s at AIC.

The Yellow Jackets return to action when they travel to Robert Morris January 3 for a 7:35 p.m. non-conference contest. The two teams will then conclude the weekend series January 4 at 4:05 p.m.
